Farke says Leeds must match his ambition

Leeds head coach Daniel Farke says he is "not the right choice" to remain in charge of the club if they fail to match his ambition in the summer.

Daniel Farke has issued a clear challenge to Leeds United: match his ambition, or risk losing him. The German head coach, who guided Leeds back to Premier League safety with three games to spare this season, has made it clear that simply surviving isn't enough for him.

"I'm not the right choice if it's about maintaining the status quo," Farke said ahead of Sunday's final home match against Brighton. "I love to be a manager who plays for something, rather than to avoid something."

Since taking over in 2023 on a four-year contract, Farke has delivered on every target set. Leeds sit 14th in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone, and even reached their first FA Cup semi-final since 1987. But for the 49-year-old, that's just the beginning.

"All the targets we agreed when I arrived have been met," Farke explained. "Now it's time for the next project at Elland Road."

While insisting there's "no doubt in my head" that he wants to stay, Farke was unequivocal about his expectations. "I can be picky and choose what I'm convinced of. I have to buy into a project to be at my best. If the club isn't ready to take that next step, then I'm not the right choice to lead it."

For Leeds fans, the message is clear: the manager who brought stability back to the club wants more than just survival. He wants a team that plays attractive, top-half football—and he's ready to walk if that vision isn't shared.
