FAMU softball is playing its first NCAA Tournament game in nearly a decade. The Rattlers are at the Gainesville Regional against No. 6 Florida. Follow along.

After nearly a decade away from the NCAA Tournament spotlight, the Florida A&M Rattlers are back—and they're stepping into the ring with a heavyweight. FAMU softball (32-20) opens the Gainesville Regional against the No. 6 overall seed, the Florida Gators (48-10), at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville.

It's a classic David vs. Goliath matchup. The Rattlers are riding high after capturing their first SWAC Tournament championship and 14th conference title overall. Meanwhile, Florida—a perennial SEC powerhouse—earned an at-large bid and enters as one of the top seeds in the entire tournament.

FAMU's hopes rest on a dynamic duo: Amari Brown, the SWAC Player of the Year who can pitch, play shortstop, and handle utility duties, and Samantha Smith, the SWAC Tournament MVP who brings versatility in the circle and at the plate. Ace pitcher Zoryana Hughes anchors the Rattlers' staff.

On the other side, the Gators boast two finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year: pitcher Keagan Rothrock and outfielder Taylor Shumaker. They lead a deep roster loaded with All-SEC talent.

The stakes couldn't be higher. The winner of this game advances to face the winner of Georgia Tech vs. Texas State on Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. ET. The loser heads to an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. ET on the same day. The Gainesville Regional title game is set for Sunday, May 17, at noon ET, with a winner-take-all game scheduled for 2:30 p.m. if needed.

The ultimate prize? A spot in the NCAA Super Regionals and a chance to punch a ticket to the Women's College World Series. For FAMU, it's a shot at history—and the perfect stage to show that they belong on the national stage.

Stay tuned for live updates as the Rattlers look to pull off a massive upset over one of college softball's elite programs.
