The Atlanta Falcons have built one of the NFL's most formidable offensive lines in recent years, but as any seasoned fan knows, the gridiron landscape can shift in an instant. That reality hit home last month when starting right tackle Kaleb McGary—a former first-round pick—unexpectedly announced his retirement just before the 2026 NFL Draft.

In a swift and savvy move, the Falcons inked former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor to a one-year deal within hours of McGary's departure. While that quick fix was a stroke of luck, it's also a clear signal that Atlanta needs to think long-term about protecting their quarterback and opening lanes for the run game.

With veteran left tackle Jake Matthews approaching age 35 and Taylor's contract set to expire after the 2026 season, the Falcons are already being linked to offensive tackle prospects in next year's draft. Pro Football Focus recently released a 2027 NFL mock draft that has Atlanta selecting Texas offensive tackle Trevor Goosby with the 10th overall pick.

PFF analyst Daire Carragher notes: "Left tackle Jake Matthews will be 35 next offseason, while right tackle Jawaan Taylor will be an unrestricted free agent. There are several options for the first tackle off the board, but Goosby stands out after looking NFL-ready in his first season as a starter. He posted PFF grades above 80.0 in both pass protection and run blocking after taking over for Kelvin Banks Jr."

Goosby, who stepped in impressively for the Longhorns, brings the kind of versatility and polish that could anchor Atlanta's line for years to come. The Falcons have done an excellent job assembling one of the league's top units, but maintaining that standard requires constant attention. Adding another first-round tackle might just be the key to keeping their offensive line dominant through the next decade.
