The Atlanta Falcons are already laying the groundwork for the 2026 season, kicking off their first voluntary workouts this week. As one of ten teams with a new head coach, they've gained a valuable head start, and Kevin Stefanski is wasting no time.

Speaking to the media, Stefanski expressed his enthusiasm for the early jump. "We're very, very lucky to get to start two weeks early," he said. "We get a jumpstart on everybody as a new staff... and the guys have done a great job so far."

While the focus is on building a new foundation, all eyes were on two key players: standout defender James Pearce Jr. and rehabbing quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Stefanski confirmed that Pearce, a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year, was not present at the voluntary sessions. "We've been in constant communication with his representation," the coach stated, keeping other attendance details private.

The update on Penix Jr., however, was more encouraging. The young quarterback is diligently recovering from offseason ACL surgery. "He's been somebody that is attacking his rehab, which should come as no surprise to anybody," Stefanski noted. "He's right where he needs to be."

For Stefanski and the Falcons, these early sessions are less about immediate results and more about establishing a core identity. "So much of the offseason program is just building foundational knowledge," he emphasized, pointing to the systems on offense, defense, and special teams.

It's a new era in Atlanta, and the first steps of the Stefanski regime are officially underway.
