With Formula 1 in an unexpected five-week hiatus, the grid's stars have traded asphalt for other arenas. While Lewis Hamilton enjoyed Coachella and Kimi Antonelli visited Valentino Rossi's ranch, a quartet of drivers found their way to the clay courts of Monaco.
Alex Albon, Ollie Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Oscar Piastri were spotted courtside, forming an impressive pit crew of support for Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner at the prestigious Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. They watched as Sinner powered past Germany's Alexander Zverev with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 victory in the semi-finals.
The tournament's official social media celebrated the crossover, posting a clip with the caption: "Levels to this lineup ๐ Sinner. Albon. Piastri. Bearman. Bortoleto. ๐๏ธ" The star power only increased as the tournament progressed. For the final against Carlos Alcaraz, Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, a hometown hero in Monaco, were also in attendance with their partners.
This mutual admiration between F1 and tennis is a two-way street. Just weeks earlier, after winning the Indian Wells title, Sinner himself gave a shoutout to his fellow Italian, Kimi Antonelli, who had just secured his maiden Grand Prix victory. "It's amazing... thanks Kimi. Thanks Formula 1," Sinner said from the podium, highlighting the shared national pride.
The extended break, caused by the cancellation of early-season races, has allowed these connections to flourish. Antonelli, who heads into the pause as the youngest championship leader in F1 history after wins in China and Japan, will now look to carry that 72-point lead when the season resumes, perhaps with some extra support from the tennis world.
