As the 2026 World Cup draws closer, all eyes are on DR Congo's national team—and according to football analyst Eric Tshibasu, the key to success lies in stability, not a complete overhaul.

While head coach Sébastien Desabre will ultimately make the final decisions, Tshibasu believes the current squad has earned its place. "After 52 years, this group brought us back to the World Cup finals under incredibly tough conditions," he explains. "Out of respect for their effort and the chemistry they've built, we need to keep the core intact."

With a packed schedule ahead—including a long AFCON tournament and World Cup qualifiers—there's little time to build new connections. Tshibasu advocates for minimal changes, perhaps adding a few impactful reinforcements, but warns against disrupting the team's momentum.

Breaking it down by position, Tshibasu starts in goal. Lionel Mpasi-Nzau, the starter throughout the qualifiers, is a must-keep. Timothy Fayulu, who heroically guided the team through a penalty shootout against Nigeria, remains a reliable backup. Then there's Matthieu Epolo, a breakout star at Standard Liège whose potential has caught attention even by European standards. "He's clearly the goalkeeper of the future for our national team," says Tshibasu.

He also advocates for a fourth goalkeeper: Dimitry Bertaud. Though currently playing in Canada, Bertaud was the starter during the first phase of qualifiers and contributed significantly. "Out of respect for what he's done, I'd take him to the World Cup," Tshibasu adds.

In defense, Tshibasu recommends doubling up on each position. On the right, Gédéon Kalulu has been a rock, solid defensively and a true team anchor. Aaron Wan-Bissaka needs no introduction—he's a proven asset at the highest level. As a third option, Jeremy Ngakia, who has logged significant minutes for Watford, would provide valuable depth.

For DR Congo fans, the message is clear: trust the team that brought you here, and build wisely from there.
