Former France international William Gallas has never been one to hold back, and in an exclusive chat with Get French Football News, the ex-defender opened up about the struggles of his former clubs—Marseille, Chelsea, and Tottenham—while tipping Arsenal for Champions League glory.
When asked why three of his old teams have hit rough patches this season, Gallas didn't mince words. "It's different problems for each club," he explained. "At Marseille, the pressure is immense. The fans are passionate, almost crazy about football, and you need the right characters in the squad to handle that. Right now, they're staring at missing out on the Champions League, which is a massive blow for the city. Their game against Rennes is huge. The real issue? Communication between the players and the manager. It's not like 20 years ago—coaches need a fresh approach to connect with this young squad."
Turning to Tottenham, Gallas pointed to lingering issues. "They were in this same spot before. Yes, they won the Europa League last season, and everyone celebrated—fans, the club—but they never fixed the core problems. That's why they're fighting relegation now. I watched their match against Leeds, and it's clear survival won't be easy. And with a London derby against Chelsea coming up, things could get even tougher."
As for Chelsea, Gallas delivered a blunt assessment. "We all know the problem: the owner needs to run the club better. The fans are fed up. We saw this coming years ago—the mismanagement was obvious. Now they've cycled through multiple managers, spent a fortune, and have nothing to show for it. Sure, they won the Club World Cup, but that's not enough for a club of Chelsea's stature. They spend money but don't have anything to show for it."
On a brighter note, Gallas praised his former club Arsenal, who are enjoying a stellar season and face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. "Anything can happen in one game," he said with a knowing smile. "It all comes down to whether it's your day or not. One team can produce a special performance. If PSG don't show up, Arsenal have every chance to lift the trophy."
