Christian Nitu's collegiate basketball journey is taking another turn. Without ever suiting up for the Washington Huskies, the 6-foot-11 forward has entered the transfer portal and committed to McNeese State, marking his third school in as many years.
Nitu, a sophomore from Ontario, Canada, initially transferred to Washington last offseason after a freshman year at Florida State. While he was projected to be a rotational frontcourt piece for coach Danny Sprinkle, a toe injury and the emergence of other players led to a redshirt season, and Nitu was seldom seen on the Huskies' bench.
Now, he heads to the reigning Southland Conference champions, seeking a fresh start closer to home at the mid-major level. As a freshman at FSU, Nitu showed flashes in limited minutes, averaging 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds per game across 22 appearances.
With three years of eligibility remaining, the move to McNeese State offers a significant opportunity. The Cowboys have become a consistent NCAA Tournament team, earning three consecutive bids as a dangerous No. 12 seed. For Nitu, it's a chance to revitalize his career, compete for meaningful minutes, and potentially chase March Madness glory in a new uniform.
