"Not in a million years" did Daniel Levy believe Tottenham would be fighting for Premier League survival after he stepped down as executive chairman.

Daniel Levy, the former executive chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, has admitted he never envisioned the club fighting for Premier League survival after stepping down from his role in September. "Not in a million years," Levy said, reflecting on a season that saw Spurs tumble into the relegation zone during a dismal run of form in 2026.

Levy, who spent 25 years at the helm, acknowledged that "relegation was not something we ever considered" during his tenure. However, a recent resurgence—taking eight points from their last 12 matches—has lifted Spurs two points above third-bottom West Ham with just two games remaining. The club's fate now hangs in the balance, with a nail-biting finish to the season.

Speaking after receiving a CBE in the New Year Honours list for his charitable and community work, Levy described feeling "emptiness" at the team's precarious league position. Yet, he remains "optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League." When asked if he ever saw signs of a relegation battle, he was emphatic: "Never, no, not in a million years."

Levy's legacy at Spurs includes the construction of the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and guiding the team to the 2019 Champions League final. However, silverware was scarce during his tenure, with only the 2008 League Cup and last season's Europa League to show for his efforts. "What I would have hoped for is winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League... easier said than done," he reflected.

As the season reaches its climax, the battle for survival intensifies. For Spurs fans, the hope is that Levy's optimism proves well-founded, and the club avoids a fate that once seemed unthinkable.
