Former British soccer player Joey Barton pleads not guilty to attacking a man at a golf club.

Former Premier League midfielder Joey Barton has entered a not guilty plea to charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The alleged incident occurred at the Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside on March 8th.

Barton, 43, a figure known for his combative playing style at clubs like Manchester City and Newcastle United, appeared via video link from Liverpool prison for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He was denied bail at an earlier magistrates hearing. A second man, 50-year-old Gary O'Grady, was also charged in connection with the alleged assault on former non-league football manager Kevin Lynch.

This latest development adds another chapter to Barton's often controversial post-playing career, which has included management and frequent media commentary. The case continues as the football world watches the legal proceedings unfold.
