Former Juventus midfielder Giancarlo Marocchi has sparked debate with his bold prediction that Weston McKennie will lose his starting spot in Luciano Spalletti's squad next season.

The American international has been a revelation since Spalletti took the helm in late October, featuring in every match and showcasing remarkable versatility. After struggling for minutes under Igor Tudor, McKennie has become indispensable, seamlessly switching between wing-back and midfield roles to give Juventus tactical fluidity.

His numbers speak volumes—nine goals and eight assists in 46 appearances this season, trailing only rising star Kenan Yildiz in goal contributions. But Marocchi, speaking on Sky Sport Italia, believes the 27-year-old's utility could become his downfall.

"McKennie played at least four roles against Lecce," Marocchi noted. "But sooner or later, he'll end up on the bench. When Juventus complete their rebuilding project, utility players will have to settle for the bench. It's been years since Juventus could field a true starting eleven."

The Bianconeri are planning a major summer overhaul, with Manchester City's Bernardo Silva identified as the ideal attacking midfielder and a new central midfielder high on the shopping list. These additions could push McKennie down the pecking order.

However, the USMNT star has a history of defying expectations. His relentless work ethic and positional flexibility—qualities that make him a manager's dream—could still earn him a spot in the XI. As Juventus look to reclaim their Serie A dominance, McKennie's ability to adapt might prove too valuable to leave on the bench.
