Former Premier league soccer player Joey Barton pleads not guilty to attacking a man at a golf club.

Former Premier League midfielder and manager Joey Barton has entered a not guilty plea following charges related to an alleged assault at a golf club in Merseyside, England. The incident, which occurred on March 8 at the Huyton and Prescot Golf Club, has placed the controversial football figure back in the headlines for off-pitch conduct.

Appearing via video link from Liverpool prison, Barton attended a plea and trial preparation hearing at Liverpool Crown Court. He and a second man, 50-year-old Gary O'Grady, were charged last month with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The BBC reported that the alleged victim is former non-league football manager Kevin Lynch.

Known for a combative playing style during his career with clubs like Manchester City and Newcastle United, Barton has often been a polarizing figure in football. His transition to management and media punditry has been similarly eventful. This latest legal development adds another chapter to his complex post-playing career, with the court process now set to move forward.
