Everton fans will have to wait a little longer to see Idrissa Gueye back in action, as the midfielder has been ruled out of Sunday's crucial clash against Sunderland.
The Senegalese international has missed the Toffees' last two outings, and manager David Moyes confirmed the unfortunate news in his pre-match press conference. "Idrissa's not fit for the game," Moyes stated. "Jarrad Branthwaite is out as well. He [Gueye] is back on the grass, but he's just not available for this game."
There is a glimmer of hope for the season finale, however. Moyes added, "There's an outside chance he could make Tottenham, so we'll see how it goes." That potential return would be a welcome boost as Everton look to finish the campaign on a high note against Spurs.
In other team news, the club announced Friday that legendary captain Seamus Coleman will depart Goodison Park this summer after an illustrious career. When asked if the Irish full-back might feature against Sunderland in what could be his final home game, Moyes was characteristically pragmatic: "Seamus wouldn't want me to say that because he wouldn't want me to think that way. He would only think it should be done if it's right, and that's the way I see it, as well."
With Gueye and Branthwaite sidelined, Everton will need to dig deep against a Sunderland side eager to spoil the party. For fans heading to Goodison, it's a chance to show support for the team—and perhaps give Coleman the send-off he deserves.
