The opening night of the 2026 NFL Draft delivered a captivating blend of expected selections and jaw-dropping surprises. Now that Round 1 has concluded, the spotlight shifts to the highly anticipated second round, where teams will have the opportunity to pursue a deep pool of elite prospects to bolster their rosters.
As expected in the first round, the Las Vegas Raiders kicked off the draft by selecting Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick. The New York Jets followed by strengthening their defense, choosing Texas Tech standout defensive end David Bailey at No. 2. However, the night wasn’t without its drama, as the Los Angeles Rams stunned many by selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall pick.
After Thursday's 32 first-round selections, there are still a lot of talented prospects remaining on the board, eagerly awaiting the moment their names are announced in Round 2. The action resumes on Friday, with each team allotted seven minutes to finalize and submit their picks.
