ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst is stirring up controversy with a bold claim about Luka Doncic's recent trip to Spain. While the basketball world assumed the Lakers star traveled overseas for specialized hamstring treatment, Windhorst suggests there might be more to the story.
During an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," Windhorst cast doubt on the official narrative. "I've heard of going to Germany for treatment, but I've never heard of going to Spain," he said. "When they sent him overseas, it was like, 'You're not going to be doing anything for a few weeks anyway.'"
The ESPN insider implied that the Lakers may have simply given the Slovenian star a chance to recharge while his injured leg healed naturally. Doncic suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain on April 2, and days later, he was spotted in Spain signing autographs and attending a basketball game alongside tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
Windhorst pointed to another factor: Doncic's personal life. "Luka also has a newborn in Slovenia," he noted. "I certainly think if he had an opportunity to go and get some time off, go to Slovenia and see your newborn child. He lives in Madrid in the offseason."
However, Slovenian basketball analyst Matej Petek fired back at Windhorst's theory. "Luka doesn't live in Madrid in the offseason, and Spain is well known for their stem cell and PRP treatments," Petek wrote on social media. "Windhorst is completely wrong here. Not the first time for him when it comes to Luka."
Multiple reports have maintained that Doncic's trip was primarily for specialized medical care. The superstar hasn't played since the injury, though he has resumed light workouts. As the Lakers push through the final stretch of the season, fans are watching closely for any sign of their star's return to the court.
