Moving forward, one big question for the Lakers is whether they can win the NBA championship with both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a big question mark hanging over their future, and it's not just about LeBron James. As they battle the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, the team's long-term championship aspirations are already being scrutinized—especially the pairing of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.

With several key players headed toward free agency this summer, including rising guard Austin Reaves, the Lakers face a pivotal offseason. Most expect the team to lock Reaves down with a new contract, but not everyone is convinced that a roster built around Dončić and Reaves can bring home an NBA title. The main concern? Defense.

Former NBA player and ESPN analyst Jay Williams didn't hold back when sharing his doubts on "Get Up."

"I don't know how you can have Austin Reaves on the same team with Luka," Williams said. "A lot of people try to say Reaves is Luka's Jalen Brunson or Luka's Kyrie Irving. But at some point, having both of them on the court from a defensive liability perspective is a major thing."

Williams argues that the Lakers would be better off surrounding Dončić with 3-and-D specialists—players who can knock down shots and lock up on defense. "I don't know if it's worth paying Austin Reaves $30 million-plus and then have cap space issues to get those opposing players," he added.

Reaves just returned from an oblique strain in Game 5 of the first-round series against the Houston Rockets. After a slow start back, he exploded for 31 points on 10-of-16 shooting in Game 2 against the Thunder, including 3-of-6 from deep and a perfect 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. But despite his offensive firepower, Reaves remains a below-average defender—and that's a problem the Lakers will have to scheme around as long as he's in the lineup.

Dončić, while an offensive genius, is also not known for elite athleticism or lockdown defense. And while his defensive effort improved this season, having two of your top scoring options as defensive liabilities is a tough formula for championship success. For the Lakers, the question isn't just about talent—it's about fit. And as they look to build a contender around Luka, the Reaves dilemma might be their toughest decision yet.
