After nearly three years away from the ring, former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. is officially making his comeback—and he's heading Down Under to do it. Premier Boxing Champions confirmed Thursday that Spence will face Australian star Tim Tszyu this summer in a highly anticipated showdown.

Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) hasn't stepped between the ropes since his decisive loss to Terence Crawford in July 2023, a fight that saw Crawford stop him to become the undisputed welterweight champion. The 36-year-old Texan was linked to a potential clash with WBC welterweight titleholder Sebastian Fundora throughout much of 2024, but those negotiations never materialized. Adding to the delay, Spence has also been navigating a legal dispute with his former coach, Derrick James, who claims he wasn't properly compensated for their time together.
For Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs), this fight represents a chance to reignite his own career trajectory. The Australian burst onto the global scene by winning the vacant WBO super welterweight title against Brian Mendoza in October 2023, but his momentum was derailed by back-to-back losses—first to late-replacement Fundora in March 2024, then a brutal knockout defeat to Bakhram Murtazaliev later that year.
Since those setbacks, Tszyu has fought four times, winning three bouts against lesser competition and dropping a rematch to Fundora last July. Seeking a fresh start, he recently parted ways with longtime trainer Igor Goloubev and worked with Pedro Diaz in Miami for two wins. Now, the 30-year-old has made another change, teaming up with legendary former champion Jeff Fenech to prepare for the biggest fight of his career against Spence.
