Manchester City frontman Erling Haaland grew visibly irritated by repeated questions regarding the scoreline after the Blues beat Burnley 1-0 to claim top spot in the Premier League. City broke the deadlock after just five minutes as Haaland latched onto a Jeremy Doku through ball to chip Martin Dubravka.

With Burnley facing the very real prospect of relegation, they dug deep and, despite City registering 28 shots, the hosts were unable to add to their tally to put the game to bed. The slender victory left the Blues level on points and goal difference with Arsenal, though they leapfrogged their title rivals courtesy of goals scored.

Following the final whistle, Haaland collected the Man of the Match award and was subjected to a series of questions regarding the scoreline.

He told Sky Sports, via the Manchester Evening News: "Yeah, we had a lot of chances, but I am happy we won, and anything else, I don't think about. Just try to win." Haaland added: "It is all about winning, no matter how.

"We tried to play our football, and just try to win. That is what you have to have in your mindset, and now, we focus on Saturday." To the third question on goals, he said: "Don't think about other goals. Think about winning, as I've said now three times."

When Haaland was asked for a final time about the margin of victory, he concluded: "1-0 is amazing. I am super happy. I don't know why you keep asking that - I am super happy. We won and we got three points, and as those fans sing, we are top of the league."

City will be displaced from the summit on Saturday should Arsenal avoid defeat against Newcastle United. Nevertheless, the Blues retain a game in hand against Crystal Palace to keep the title race firmly within their grasp, regardless of the outcome.

That game has yet to be rescheduled owing to Palace's participation in the UEFA Conference League. Next on the agenda for City is another visit to Wembley, where they face Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The victor of that tie will meet either Chelsea or Leeds United in the FA Cup final on Saturday, May 16. City are scheduled to travel to AFC Bournemouth that weekend, so should they progress, that game will also require rearranging.
