The Miami Heat's season ended in heartbreaking fashion Tuesday night, falling 127-126 in overtime to the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Play-In Tournament. While LaMelo Ball's game-winning shot was the final blow, it was an earlier incident involving Ball and Heat star Bam Adebayo that left head coach Erik Spoelstra seething after the final buzzer.

During a first-half collision under the basket, Ball appeared to swipe at Adebayo's foot after contact, sending the All-Star center tumbling to the court. The result was a lower back injury that sidelined Adebayo for the remainder of the crucial elimination game, a significant blow to Miami's frontcourt.

In a fiery post-game press conference, Spoelstra didn't hold back, criticizing both the play and the officials' lack of a call. "I don't think it's cute. I don't think it's funny. I think it's a stupid play. It's a dangerous play," Spoelstra stated. "He should be penalized for that... He should have been thrown out of the game for that."

The controversial moment overshadowed an otherwise brilliant performance from Ball, who finished with 30 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds to propel the Hornets into the final play-in game. Charlotte will now await the loser of the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic matchup.

As the Heat head into an early offseason, the league will likely review the trip to determine if any supplemental discipline is warranted for Ball. For Miami, the costly injury to their defensive anchor became a pivotal turning point in a game—and a season—that slipped away in the narrowest of margins.
