Michigan point guard Elliot Cadeau is going to see where he stands in the eyes of NBA teams, scouts and evaluators.

Cadeau, who was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player, declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported on Friday.

According to Givony, Cadeau “will go through the draft process with an eye on building momentum going into next year.” That means Cadeau will have until the NCAA’s May 27 deadline to gather valuable feedback before he needs to withdraw his name from draft consideration.

Earlier this month, Cadeau agreed to a new deal to return to Michigan for his senior season after playing a leading role in the Wolverines’ run to their first national championship since 1989.

Cadeau, who spent the first two seasons of his college career at North Carolina, averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 assists in 27.3 minutes and earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention nod in his first year in Ann Arbor. A pass-first facilitator who controlled Michigan’s offense, he scored in double figures in 21 games, dished out 10 or more assists six times and shot a career-high 37.6% from 3-point range.

He took his play to another level during the NCAA Tournament. During Michigan’s six-game run to the national title, he averaged 12.3 points, 7.5 assists and 1.7 steals in 32.3 minutes and tied his season high with 19 points in the 69-63 championship game win over UConn.

“It means the world to me,” Cadeau said after the UConn win. “I’m just so proud of myself, where I came from. Last year I was really down on myself, a lot of people doubted me. And I’m just so proud of myself for me to be able to say I was the Most Outstanding Player and win a national championship at the same time.”

Cadeau is the third Michigan player with remaining eligibility to enter his name into the draft, along with center Aday Mara and forward Morez Johnson Jr. Mara and Johnson also declared on Friday, which was the last day for players to do so.
