Wolves boss Rob Edwards is looking ahead to Saturday's Premier League clash with Brighton at the American Express Stadium (kick-off 3 PM BST), and there's plenty to unpack as the season winds down.
First, some good news on the injury front. Ladislav Krejci is back in training and available for selection after a recent layoff, while Hugo Bueno—who battled through a knee issue in last weekend's draw against Sunderland—is also fit to feature. However, goalkeeper Jose Sa remains sidelined, though Edwards is hopeful he'll return next week.
Edwards also addressed his decision to head straight down the tunnel after the Sunderland match, a moment that raised eyebrows. "It was the right thing at the time," he explained. "It was pretty clear how everyone felt in the stadium, and I didn't want to incite that any more."
Reflecting on a challenging campaign, Edwards acknowledged, "It's been a really difficult season," but he's keeping his eyes on the bigger picture. "I'm excited by the long-term. Those in the building are really confident that there's a plan in place." When asked if this is his toughest patch in management, he was candid: "I'm in the situation I am in right now, but this is not my fault. It's been going on a long time. We came into this situation, so I feel energised by what we're going to do and the difference we're going to make going forward. We're going to have to ride out this difficult period and stay strong."
Since taking the reins, Edwards says Wolves have been "playing survival football," with a focus on "confidence levels" and instilling a "minimum level of hard work" across the squad. That mentality will be crucial against a Brighton side he describes as "a really good team with loads of good players and a good way of playing. High energy with and without the ball. It's a difficult game, but we want to perform well, so motivation levels from us still need to be high."
Looking further ahead, Edwards is already planning for next season, emphasizing the need to "do the bulk of the work for the summer as quickly and early as possible" to ensure a strong start in the Championship. Meanwhile, Tommy Doyle has returned to Wolves after a season-long loan at Birmingham City, adding depth to the midfield as the club navigates this transitional period.
