History is being made at Watkins Glen this May, and it's a milestone every motorsports fan should celebrate. Dystany Spurlock is set to become the first Black woman to race in NASCAR when she makes her Craftsman Truck Series debut on May 8. And if that weren't enough, she'll also compete in an ARCA Menards Series race on the same day—a doubleheader that showcases her incredible drive and determination.
Spurlock's entry into NASCAR is a powerful moment for diversity in motorsports, especially for aspiring women and girls of color who dream of a career behind the wheel. She joins a legacy of trailblazers that includes Sara Christian, who made history as the first woman to race in NASCAR's Cup Series back in June 1949. Now, Spurlock is writing her own chapter in that story.
The 34-year-old racer will pilot the No. 69 Foxxtecca Toyota for MBM Motorsports/Garage 66. But don't think for a second she's just showing up—Spurlock has already proven she's a serious competitor. In her first ARCA race at Hickory last month, she started eighth and powered her way to a seventh-place finish. She followed that up with a solid 12th-place run at Rockingham. And her racing résumé doesn't stop at four wheels: Spurlock is also a professional motorcycle drag racer, with multiple starts in NHRA's Pro Stock Motorcycle class.
"I'm excited for Watkins Glen," Spurlock said in a team press release. "It's been a while since I've raced on a road course, so I'm looking forward to getting back out there. Having the opportunity to compete in ARCA and make my debut in the truck is going to be a lot of fun. I'm focused on learning as much as I can in both the car and the truck, and hopefully we can keep this top-10 momentum going!"
Spurlock's action-packed 2025 season is being brought to fans by Foxxtecca, an experiential media company that's documenting her journey in a docuseries called Driven by Dystany: The Road to NASCAR. The series aims to connect the automotive industry with new and diverse audiences through storytelling, education, and live experiences. It's a story of grit, passion, and breaking barriers—and we can't wait to see what she does next.
