Dundee High School has become a powerhouse in wrestling, consistently sending its top talent to compete at the Division I college level. Names like Braeden Davis (Penn State), Stoney Buell (Purdue), and Casey Swiderski (Iowa State) are already making waves on the national stage. Now, another Viking is ready to join their ranks.
Blake Cosby, a senior with an impressive 44-2 record this season, has been named the Monroe County Region Wrestler of the Year for the second consecutive year. He headlines the 2026 All-Region Wrestling team, and his next stop is the University of Michigan this fall. It's a remarkable achievement for a school with only about 500 students, but Cosby isn't surprised by Dundee's success. "The people in that (practice) room want to get better," he says.
Cosby's journey to the top was fueled by daily battles with fellow state champions Donny Beaufait and Rocco Redmon. That competitive environment helped him secure three straight state championships, including this year's title, where he was ranked 12th in the nation. He also played a key role in Dundee's ninth consecutive Division 3 state team championship, a streak that speaks to the program's relentless culture.
"He has been a tremendous part of the Viking lineup for four years," says Dundee coach Garrett Stevens. "Even after committing to the University of Michigan, he stayed focused. He kept trying to get better."
What sets Cosby apart, according to Stevens, is his mental maturity. "He just matured and learned how to handle situations. He is very coachable. Even when there was a bad call or something else didn't go his way, he was always calm, cool, and collected."
Cosby himself admits he made a point to savor his senior season. "Knowing it was my senior year, I just soaked it in," he says. And he soaked in every match, often opting for technical falls over quick pins. "I like spending time on the mat. I am more of a takedown person." There's a strategic reason for that approach, too: he knows pins will be rare at the Division I level next year. "There is always room for improvement," says the son of Sonya and Eric Cosby of Maybee.
Cosby is one of just seven wrestlers in Monroe County Region history to earn Wrestler of the Year honors more than once, a testament to his consistency and drive. As he prepares for the next chapter, his legacy at Dundee is already secure—a champion on the mat and a model of composure under pressure.
