Southland's baseball team delivered a dominant performance on the road Friday, routing Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 13-1 in a five-inning contest that showcased both pitching prowess and offensive firepower.
For the Rebels (9-3 overall), the big story was Dinero Dunagan's milestone moment. The pitcher earned his first varsity win in style, tossing a complete five-inning gem while allowing just one hit and one run, striking out three batters along the way. It's the kind of breakout performance that builds confidence for any young arm.
But Dunagan wasn't alone in stealing the spotlight. The Southland bats came alive early and often, with Brekken Koenigs leading the charge by going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in three runs. Beau Sathre matched that production with a 3-for-4 day that included a double and three RBIs, while Easton Meyer chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort, also adding a double and two RBIs.
Logan Volkart contributed a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI, and Will Thome went 1-for-2 with a run batted in to round out a well-balanced offensive attack. For a team that's now 9-3 on the season, this kind of complete-game effort—strong pitching paired with relentless hitting—signals that Southland is finding its rhythm at just the right time.
