The Duke Blue Devils' roster is seeing some movement this offseason, as 2024 four-star recruit Darren Harris has entered the transfer portal. After two seasons in Durham, the sharpshooting wing is seeking a new collegiate home where he can carve out a larger role.
Harris arrived at Duke as part of a star-studded 2024 class that included top prospects like Cooper Flagg. Over two seasons, he appeared in 57 games, providing depth off the bench. This past season for the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 overall seed, he averaged 3.3 points in 9.7 minutes per game, shooting 33.3% from beyond the arc.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Harris's next destination is a key question. Looking back at his high school recruitment offers provides some clues: Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Georgetown were all in the mix. However, the Maryland connection is particularly interesting, as that offer came from then-coach Kevin Willard, who is now at Villanova. A reunion with Willard at Villanova could be a compelling fit for both parties.
Given his pedigree as a former Duke recruit, Harris is expected to draw significant interest from other high-major programs looking to add a proven shooter with championship program experience. His next move will be one to watch as the transfer portal heats up.
