Defender Shane Duffy and midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp are among four Norwich City first-team players set to leave the club when their contracts expire this summer.

Schlupp joined the side as a free agent at the beginning of the season but has struggled for fitness, playing just nine Championship games for the Canaries.

Injuries to left-backs Lucien Mahovo and Ben Chrisene have not aided the versatile 33-year-old former Leicester and Crystal Palace player's cause, Canaries boss Philippe Clement explained.

"I think Jeffery had bad luck not to be fit enough for this season," Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"I've been impressed in the two weeks that he's been training because you see a very experienced player, a good character also in the dressing room.

"But with the situation we had with Ben [Chrisene] and Lucien [Mahovo] this season, we need to be sure of consistency next season in this position. Too many times we had to play with a right-footed player there so, because of that, this is the decision."

Duffy, 34, has also struggled with injuries this season but Clement says it is the "evolution" of the squad that has resulted in the former Republic of Ireland international falling down the pecking order.

"Ruairi [McConville] has stepped up this season big time," Clement said.

"Harry [Darling] also stepped up the last couple of months, Jakov [Medic] did well. He [Duffy] had a couple of small things along the way also. He's getting older, all these guys are younger.

"I've been in that moment of my career also in the past so I think it's a logical one. We respect heartily everything Shane has done for this club and he had really good spells. We wish him all the best for his next challenge."

Midfielder Emiliano Marcondes and winger Tony Springett are the other two players to be exiting the club.

Marcondes has only made 16 league appearances for the side, while Springett is leaving to pursue more minutes elsewhere.

"He's now in a moment of his career that he needs to play a lot of minutes to make the next step," Clement said.

"Maybe one day as a club, we will need to decide to get him back after playing a lot of minutes because he's also someone with a Norwich heart."

However, one player who Norwich may look to sign permanently is midfielder Sam Field, who is set to return back to parent club Queens Park Rangers at the end of the season.

Clement added: "He will be somebody we will keep an eye on and what is the best choice for our midfield for next season.

"He can be in that discussion but it has to be at the right price of course."
