Drury University's men's swimming program is making waves both in the pool and in the classroom this season, and junior standout Alvaro Zornoza is leading the charge with a historic honor that has the entire Panthers community buzzing.

Zornoza has been named the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Men's Swimming and Diving Division II Team Member of the Year for the 2025-26 season, becoming the first Drury athlete ever to claim this prestigious title. The award recognizes the nation's top scholar-athlete who excels both in competition and academics, and Zornoza fits the bill perfectly. A mathematics major from Gijon, Spain, he boasts a flawless 4.00 grade-point average—a testament to his dedication beyond the pool deck.

But Zornoza isn't the only Panther earning accolades. Fellow Drury swimmers Ivan Adamchuk and Yuri Cabral also secured spots on the CSC's 11-man First-Team Academic All-America squad, making Drury the only NCAA institution at any level to place three swimmers on the top academic team this year. On the women's side, Maria Fe Munoz added to the celebration with a Third-Team Academic All-America selection, bringing the university's total honorees to four for 2025-26.

Zornoza's season in the water has been nothing short of spectacular. He powered the Panthers to a national runner-up finish at the 2026 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in March, claiming an individual national title in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:41.20. He also secured second place in the 100 backstroke and third in the 200 IM, while swimming key legs on Drury's 400 medley and 800 free relay teams—both of which earned runner-up finishes at nationals.

His dominance continued at the GLVC Championships, where he helped Drury secure a second-place team finish. Zornoza set a conference championship record in the 200 backstroke with a blazing 1:42.67 and took first place in the 100 backstroke at 46.39. For Adamchuk, this marks his second consecutive year earning a spot on the CSC's top academic squad, proving that Drury's commitment to excellence runs deep.

Whether you're a swimmer looking to channel that championship mindset or a fan celebrating academic and athletic greatness, these Panthers show that hard work pays off in every lane of life. Dive into your own goals with the same spirit—because every lap counts.
