The San Antonio Spurs are on the verge of advancing, holding a 3-1 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers in their playoff series. A home win today would secure their place in the conference semi-finals.
While much of the spotlight has naturally fallen on Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs’ overall performances have highlighted contributions across the roster. Their balance has been key to gaining control of the series.
And according to Draymond Green, one player in particular has been central to that success. The Warriors forward singled out a name that surprised many given Wembanyama’s influence.
Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, the veteran power forward identified Stephon Castle as the most important Spurs player in the playoffs so far.
He explained: “Stephon Castle is a winner, Stephon Castle is a special player. To see him taking this leap in these playoffs like this… I think in these playoffs he has been the most important player for the Spurs.”
Green explained that Castle’s impact goes beyond recognition, suggesting his role is often overlooked due to Wembanyama’s profile.
“He’ll never get credit for being the most important player, because they got Wemby. But, man… you take Stephon Castle off that team, that is a completely different team. That kid there, I think he is special,” the Warriors legend concluded.
Castle’s performances back up Green’s argument. He has delivered consistent all-around displays that shape how the Spurs operate in this series.
He is averaging 21 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Those numbers reflect his ability to contribute across multiple areas.
The 21-year-old’s impact was even more evident in Game 4. With Wembanyama absent, Castle stepped up with 33 points in a 120-108 win.
