Draymond Green has added a major twist to the conversation around LeBron James’ future, and it is not something NBA fans are ready to ignore.
LeBron is still playing meaningful playoff basketball at 41 years old, which makes every postseason appearance feel historic. But it also makes every deep run carry a different kind of weight.
With the Los Angeles Lakers still alive in the playoffs and LeBron continuing to carry a huge workload, the question is no longer just how much he has left in the tank.
It is whether this could actually be the final stretch of his NBA career.
Speaking via The Post Moves podcast, Green made a surprising claim about LeBron’s future.
“This could be the last time we see this. LeBron could retire after this year,” Green stated.
That comment stands out because Green is not just another analyst guessing from the outside. He has a close relationship with LeBron, and his words naturally carry more weight because of that connection.
LeBron has not publicly confirmed a final decision, but reports around the league have suggested retirement after this season remains a real possibility.
The retirement talk comes at a strange time because LeBron is still producing at a level that almost nobody has matched at his age.
Through the Lakers’ first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets, he has been averaging around 25 points, 9 rebounds, and nearly 9 assists while playing heavy minutes.
His Game 3 performance was the clearest reminder of what he still has left. LeBron finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists, then hit a clutch three late in regulation to force overtime.
He also made history during the series by sharing the court with Bronny James in the playoffs, adding another layer to what could become one of the final chapters of his career.
There have still been signs of age. His 10-point showing in Game 4 gave fuel to the retirement conversation, especially with the physical toll of another postseason run showing up.
But even at 41, LeBron remains central to everything the Lakers are doing. That is what makes Green’s update so striking. If this really is the end, it is not because LeBron has faded away quietly.
