In less than one week, the Washington Commanders will be on the clock with the seventh overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the big question is: who will be available?
Draft analyst Thor Nystrom recently shared his insights, and the news isn't great for Commanders fans hoping to land a dynamic playmaker. Nystrom suggests the top of the draft board is fairly predictable, with Fernando Mendoza likely heading to the Raiders at No. 1 and David Bailey projected to the Jets at No. 2.
The intrigue begins after that. This year's class is noted for a lack of traditional "blue-chip" prospects at premium positions, which could lead to a talented running back shooting up the board. Nystrom specifically highlighted Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, a player with the kind of offensive spark that could tempt teams picking in the top seven.
So, what are the chances Love falls to Washington at pick No. 7? Nystrom puts the odds at a slim 28%. He believes every team picking ahead of the Commanders will have to seriously consider the immediate impact Love could bring to their offense, making him a hot commodity in the early selections.
If Love is off the board, the Commanders might turn their attention to a wide receiver. However, Nystrom notes that the depth at receiver in this class could cause teams to wait. He has pass-catchers like Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson graded more towards the back end of the top ten, with Tyson's injury history being the only thing keeping him from being the consensus top receiver available.
With the draft just days away, the Commanders' war room faces a classic dilemma: draft for immediate need or select the best player available? If Jeremiyah Love is their target, they may need a little draft-day luck to see him in burgundy and gold next season.
