Artem Dovbyk's second season at Roma hasn't gone as planned, and the Ukrainian striker is now anxiously awaiting medical clearance to rejoin group training. After a promising debut campaign where he netted 17 goals despite some struggles, expectations were high for the 27-year-old under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini. However, the reality has been far different.

Dovbyk has looked out of sync in Roma's system, managing just three goals and two assists in 17 appearances before disaster struck. A tendon injury in his left thigh, suffered during a match against Lecce on January 6th, has sidelined him ever since—far longer than initially anticipated. What was expected to be a minor setback has turned into a months-long absence, keeping him out of action for the Giallorossi's crucial run-in.

On May 4th, Dovbyk will travel to Turku, Finland for a specialist check-up, hoping to finally get the green light to return. With only three matches remaining in the season, time is running out for the forward to make an impact and prove his worth to the club.

The timing couldn't be worse for Dovbyk. Roma's recent acquisition of Donyell Malen has already shown promise, and the writing appears to be on the wall. It's widely expected that the Ukrainian, who arrived from Girona with such high hopes, will be shown the door this summer. A strong finish to the season could be his last chance to salvage his Roma career—or at least boost his value on the transfer market.
