Caitlin Clark is brushing off concerns after a scary moment in Thursday's preseason game, assuring fans she's "good" following a hard fall. The Indiana Fever star exited early in the third quarter after a foul by Dallas Wings forward Alanna Smith, who was penalized with a Flagrant 1 for not giving Clark proper landing space on a 3-point attempt.
"I just landed on my kneecap really hard," Clark said after the Fever's 95-80 loss. "I feel good."
The incident occurred when Clark drove to the basket and crashed to the floor, visibly wincing in pain. Despite the scare, she calmly sank two of three free throws before heading to the bench for the remainder of the game. In just 16 minutes of action, Clark posted an impressive 21 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 11-for-13 from the charity stripe.
Fever head coach Stephanie White downplayed the severity, noting that Clark's early exit was partly by design. "We had planned for her to come out about that time anyway," White explained. "It was just extra precaution. The plan was for her to start the third quarter and then get her out quickly." White confirmed Clark didn't require additional evaluation.
The game marked Clark's first appearance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse since July, following a stretch sidelined by injuries during the 2025 season. Fellow Fever All-Stars Kelsey Mitchell contributed 10 points in 17 minutes, while Aliyah Boston sat out with a lower leg injury.
Clark also took a moment to praise the officiating, a hot topic in the WNBA this season. "I thought the refs did a really good job tonight," she said. "I know there was a committee of people that really wanted them to start calling things, and I thought they did a great job of that."
The matchup also featured the preseason debut of this year's No. 1 overall draft pick, Azzi Fudd, who scored four points in 16 minutes for the Wings. For Fever fans, the biggest takeaway is clear: Clark is walking it off and ready for the regular season.
