The Miami Dolphins are allowed to have one extra player on their roster this offseason, and they've filled that final spot after minicamp tryouts.

The Miami Dolphins have officially filled their final offseason roster spot, signing undrafted rookie DJ Herman after an impressive showing during the team's rookie minicamp. While most teams are capped at 90 players during the offseason, the Dolphins had an extra slot available thanks to a roster exemption for International Pathway Player Seydou Traore—giving them a total of 91 spots. On Monday, Miami used that last opening to lock in Herman, who had been trying out over the weekend.

Herman's journey to the NFL is a story of versatility and determination. A three-star recruit out of powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, he committed to San Diego State, where he spent five seasons as a linebacker. During his college career, he racked up 56 tackles and two passes defensed, proving his value on defense. But now, the Dolphins are asking him to flip the script—literally. Herman is making the switch to offense, stepping in as a fullback, where he'll also look to contribute on special teams.

This kind of position change isn't uncommon in the NFL, especially for players who show the athleticism and football IQ to adapt. For Herman, it's a chance to carve out a new path in the league, and the Dolphins clearly saw enough during minicamp to take a chance on him. With training camp on the horizon, all eyes will be on how this former linebacker adjusts to his new role in Miami's offensive scheme.
