The Miami Dolphins selected Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft on Friday evening.

Rodriquez (6-1, 231 pounds) took home a host of awards following the 2025 season, including the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (given to the nation's top defender) and the Butkus Award (given to the NCAA's top LB), among other honors. After racking up 128 tackles (11 behind the line), six pass breakups, four interceptions and one sack, Rodriquez finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting last fall.

He took home Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-SEC honors following his fifth and final season. Rodriquez started his college career at Virginia in 2021 before transferring to Texas Tech ahead of the 2022 season. After totaling 316 tackles, 13 forced fumbles, 12 pass breakups, six interceptions, six sacks and two fumbles returned for touchdowns in 44 games with the Red Raiders, Rodriquez will be 24 years old entering his rookie season in the NFL.
