The Miami Dolphins took three wide receivers in the 2026 NFL draft, and the first of those is projected to take on a large role in his first season.

The Miami Dolphins entered the 2026 offseason with a wide receiver room that looked more like a blank slate than a depth chart. After trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos and releasing both Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, the team was left surprisingly thin at one of the most critical positions in today's NFL.

To patch the holes, the Dolphins brought in veteran trio Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell, and Terrace Marshall Jr. But it was in the 2026 NFL Draft where Miami made its biggest statement, selecting three wide receivers: Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr. And according to Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, the first of those rookies is already projected to make a significant impact in his debut season.

"Tolbert and Atwell were No. 3 or No. 4 receivers with their previous teams," Moton wrote. "So, Douglas will have a chance to claim a starting role with impressive showings through training camp. Many saw Douglas as a reach midway through the third round, but with a clear pathway to a starting position, the big-play wideout will have a chance to prove his critics wrong."

Douglas brings an intriguing resume to South Beach. Over four collegiate seasons split between Florida and Texas Tech, he appeared in 40 games, hauling in 135 receptions for 2,031 yards and 16 touchdowns. Those numbers suggest a player with both consistency and big-play potential—exactly what a rebuilding receiving corps needs.

While Tolbert and Atwell hold the edge in NFL experience, neither has consistently wowed as a pro. That leaves the door wide open for Douglas to step in and potentially emerge as Miami's top wide receiver by the time the 2026 season kicks off. For a Dolphins team looking to reload rather than rebuild, a rookie stepping up could be the spark that turns a thin depth chart into a strength.

For fans and fantasy owners alike, Douglas is a name to watch as training camp approaches. Whether he's lining up opposite Tolbert or sliding into the slot, one thing is clear: the Dolphins' rookie has the talent and opportunity to make a big first impression.
