The Los Angeles Dodgers took a commanding 12-3 win over the Colorado Rockies in the final game of a four-game series Monday.
The Dodgers lost the previous two games of the set, but managed to salvage the series behind a flurry of home runs and another strong outing from Justin Wrobleski after an early hiccup.
Wrobleski threw seven innings, allowing a single run while striking out three batters. He allowed eight hits in the outing, but didn’t give up a walk for the second consecutive outing.
Colorado got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, hitting back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning. The Dodgers immediately claimed the lead in the top of the second, though, as Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas went back-to-back with solo homers.
LA added on in the top of the third, as Will Smith grounded into a fielders choice—later scored as an error—to score Shohei Ohtani, who extended his on-base streak to 52 games with a single. Teoscar Hernandez plated Alex Call in the following at-bat.
LA added to their lead in the fourth, as a bases loaded balk plated Muncy. Rojas hit a notable milestone in the same inning, logging his 1,000th career hit.
The Dodgers quietly added a couple more runs to their total in the following innings, with Call drawing an RBI walk and Rojas perfectly executing a squeeze bunt.
Dalton Rushing joined in on the action in the eighth inning, hitting a solo shot to left, and Hernandez logged an RBI single later in the inning.
The Rockies finally struck back in the bottom of the eighth with a no-doubter off the bat of TJ Rumfield—the second homer over 440 feet the Dodgers have allowed this series.
Muncy wasted no time in getting the run back for the Dodgers, though, as he turned in his second two-homer appearance of the series with a 397-footer. Rushing also hit his second homer of the game in the ninth, proving he’s worthy of a spot this year.
Through eight games this season, Rushing has seven homers with a 1.760 OPS. Nine of his 12 hits this year have been for extra bases.
The Rockies managed a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Dodgers had long put the game away by that point.
LA won’t get a rest day after their first wrap around series of the season, as they travel for another divisional matchup against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make the start for the Dodgers, and will hope he can get a win streak going after their win Monday. Tuesday’s game starts at 6:45 p.m. PT.
