The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a roster move just ahead of their series finale against the Houston Astros, activating right-handed reliever Brock Stewart from the injured list. Stewart has joined the team in Houston and could make his 2025 season debut as early as Wednesday morning.
To make room on the active roster, the Dodgers have optioned left-handed pitcher Jake Eder to Triple-A Oklahoma City. This swap brings another righty into the bullpen while sending a lefty down to the minors.
Stewart's journey back to the majors has been a long one. Originally drafted by the Dodgers in 2014, he pitched for the club from 2016 to 2019 before being claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. He returned to Los Angeles at the 2025 trade deadline, but his comeback was cut short after just four appearances due to shoulder inflammation that required a procedure and sidelined him for the rest of the season.
The right-hander began a rehab assignment with Single-A Ontario on April 14 and has been impressive ever since. In two Single-A outings, he allowed just two baserunners, and he has continued to excel with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Now, he's ready to be tested at the major-league level against the rival Astros.
"His role with the Dodgers clearly is going to be a guy, hopefully, high-leverage against righties," said Dodgers Nation's Doug McKain. "We have to see what he looks like. The beautiful thing about this is they don't want to go out there and make trades for relievers. They want as many of these guys as options, and Stewart is certainly an option."
Stewart had a standout season with the Minnesota Twins before rejoining the Dodgers, posting a 2.38 ERA in 39 appearances. Los Angeles acquired him in a trade that sent James Outman to the Twins, hoping to bolster an injury-riddled bullpen. Through his four appearances with the Dodgers last season, Stewart pitched 3.2 innings, striking out three batters while allowing two runs for a 4.91 ERA.
With Stewart back in the mix, the Dodgers add another experienced arm to their bullpen as they continue their series against Houston. Are you excited to see Brock Stewart back in action for the Boys in Blue?
