As the NBA playoffs approach, the Boston Celtics are once again in the spotlight, and they've earned a glowing review from a man who knows a thing or two about winning in Boston. Former Celtics championship coach Doc Rivers recently shared high praise for his old team and its current leader, Joe Mazzulla, on "The Bill Simmons Podcast."

Rivers, one of only two coaches to lead the Celtics to a title in the last four decades, sees a team built for another deep run. He was particularly impressed with how Mazzulla and the squad navigated a potentially tricky situation: reintegrating superstar Jayson Tatum after an injury this season.

"That could have gone bad," Rivers admitted. He credited the "equity of a title" for fostering a selfless environment and highlighted Mazzulla's crucial role. "I also thought Joe did his best work there. Like, he made it clear: this is Jaylen Brown's team this year. And then you gotta give a ton of credit to Tatum."

The results speak for themselves. Since Tatum's return, the Celtics have posted a formidable 13-3 record, showcasing a seamless blend of talent and chemistry. Rivers believes the team has solidified its identity, noting, "They are a made team. Each guy understands his role, and Joe does a great job of accountability."

This kind of cohesive, role-accepting basketball is the hallmark of championship contenders. With a core that's been there before and a coach earning respect across the league, the Celtics are entering the postseason with the confidence and structure that makes them a formidable threat to win it all once again.
