Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf won't face criminal charges from his fan altercation during Pittsburgh's meeting against the Lions last season.

In a major off-field development, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf will not face criminal charges following his altercation with a fan during last season's game against the Detroit Lions.

The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, at Ford Field, during the second quarter of what would become a thrilling 29-24 Steelers victory. Metcalf was caught on video interacting with Lions fan Ryan Kennedy, who had approached the railing seeking an autograph while holding a Metcalf jersey.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, which announced its decision on Friday, May 1, "After an extensive review of all the relevant evidence, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has determined that charges will not issue in this case." The statement detailed that Kennedy allegedly left his seat and said something to Metcalf as he approached the stands, prompting a brief interaction where Metcalf grabbed Kennedy's shirt and pushed him back. Notably, the fan did not appear injured and did not seek medical attention at the game.

While the legal system has cleared Metcalf of criminal wrongdoing, the on-field consequences were significant. The NFL suspended Metcalf for two games without pay, costing him over $500,000 in game checks and voiding $45 million in guarantees from his contract—a stark reminder of the league's strict conduct policies, even when no charges are filed.

However, the story isn't over yet. Metcalf still faces a civil lawsuit from Kennedy, who also sued Ford Field management and former NFL stars Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe, alleging "defamatory and life-altering statements" made against him more than a month after the incident.

For fans following this saga, it's a reminder that while the gridiron battles are fierce, the off-field drama can be just as intense. Stay tuned for updates as the civil case unfolds.
