District high school baseball is heating up across the state, with teams battling for coveted spots in the state tournaments. As the district semifinals and championship games approach, we’ve seen some incredible performances under pressure. Here are 10 standout players from the South Sound who delivered in the opening rounds—and they’re the kind of clutch athletes who inspire young players to step up their game.

Any no-hitter is impressive, but a no-hitter in districts against one of the top teams from southwest Washington? That’s next-level dominance. Tahoma’s leadoff hitter and left-handed pitcher, an Oregon State commit, was lights out in a 2-0 win over Union in the Class 4A District 3/4 tournament. He tossed seven innings with no hits, no runs, 10 strikeouts, and just one walk—and added two hits at the plate. That’s the kind of all-around performance that makes you want to grab a bat and hit the cages.

Olympia’s lineup came alive in an 8-3 win over Emerald Ridge in the 4A District 3/4 tournament. If we had to pick one standout, it was designated hitter Milo Tolbert, who batted cleanup with two hits and two RBI. When the pressure’s on, having a reliable bat in the middle of the order can change the game—and Tolbert delivered.

On the mound, Curtis’s pitcher dominated in a 2-1 road win over second-seeded Battle Ground in the 4A District 3/4 tournament. He tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out four. The win clinched a 4A state tournament berth for the Vikings—a moment every young pitcher dreams of.

Sumner’s “Mr. Clutch” came through again in a wild rally, delivering the game-winning RBI on a double in the seventh inning to beat Kennedy Catholic, 7-6. Kennedy Catholic led 6-0 in the fourth inning before Sumner mounted a furious comeback. That win punched Sumner’s ticket to the 4A state tournament—proof that it’s never over until the last out.

Fife’s pitcher earned the win in a 4-3 victory over Port Angeles in the 2A District 3 tournament quarterfinals, sending his team to the semifinals. He tossed six innings, giving up six hits, three runs (one earned), and striking out three. In tournament baseball, a gritty outing like that can be the difference between advancing and going home.

Puyallup’s shortstop, a UW commit, continues to be a hitting machine this spring. In an 11-1 win over Mount Rainier in the opening round of the 4A District tournament, he showed why he’s one of the top players to watch. Whether you’re a young infielder or just love the game, performances like these remind us why we play—and why the right gear can help you perform at your best when it matters most.
