Michael Block may be heading home early from the 2026 PGA Championship, but don't expect this to be his final bow. After a second-round 75 at Aronimink Golf Club, the beloved club pro is almost certain to miss the cut. But if you think that's the end of the Block Party, think again.
"I have to be honest with you — there's no way on God's green earth this is my last one," Block told SiriusXM's Jason Sobel on Friday. "No chance. I will definitely qualify for one more, if not five more."
The head pro at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, entered the week with his trademark swagger. After an even-par 70 on Thursday, Block sat just three shots off the lead, seemingly ready to recreate the magic of his unforgettable T-15 finish at the 2023 PGA Championship. Friday, however, brought a different story. Windy conditions and brutal pin placements turned Aronimink into a beast, and Block struggled to a 5-over 75.
For a fleeting moment, it looked like the party might roll on. Four straight pars and a birdie at the 5th hole moved Block to 2-under for the tournament, within striking distance of the leaders. But the wheels came off quickly: bogeys at 6, 8, and 11, followed by a costly double-bogey at the long par-3 14th. A birdie at 16 gave him a glimmer of hope, but back-to-back bogeys on the final two holes sealed his fate.
As of Friday afternoon, DataGolf projects the cutline at 4-over, meaning Block's 5-over total—shared by PGA Tour stars like Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, and Akshay Bhatia—will likely leave him watching the weekend from home. It's his fifth straight PGA Championship appearance, earned by finishing inside the top 20 at the PGA Professional Championship last month. And true to form, Block had predicted the challenge ahead, telling Golfweek he'd probably "get his ass handed to him" at Aronimink.
But don't count him out. Block hasn't made a cut since that magical 2023 run, but his confidence remains unshaken. "No way on God's green earth this is my last one," he insists. For fans of the game's most charismatic club pro, the Block Party is far from over.
