Former La Salle High School defensive back Devonta Smith is signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent, according to multiple reports, after going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Smith played last season at Notre Dame after playing the previous four seasons at Alabama.
When Smith committed to Alabama in 2020, he received a congratulatory tweet from his cousin, Shaun Alexander, the former Boone County High School, Crimson Tide and Seattle Seahawks standout running back.
Earlier, the Panthers selected linebacker Jackson Kuwatch, a former Lakota West High School standout from Miami University, in round 7 of the draft, 227th overall.
Ahead of the draft, the La Salle football Twitter/X account wished good luck to former Lancers Smith, Cam Porter and DeAgo Brumfield.
