The Detroit Tigers have added some serious power potential to their farm system, signing infielder Luke Ritter to a minor-league contract. The 29-year-old slugger, still seeking his major league debut, will report to Triple-A Toledo, providing valuable organizational depth.
Ritter brings a classic three-true-outcomes profile to the Tigers' organization. Over his past 356 games in the New York Mets' system, he launched an impressive 64 home runs. This power was on full display during his four seasons with Triple-A Syracuse, where he posted a 3.8% home run rate, significantly above the Triple-A average of 3.1% from 2022-2025.
While the home run and walk rates are enticing, his game comes with notable swing-and-miss. In those same Syracuse seasons, he struck out at a 30.6% clip, well above the league average. His versatility, however, is a major asset. Ritter has extensive experience at second base, third base, first base, and both corner outfield spots, making him a true utility option.
After becoming a free agent last November and a brief stint with the Los Angeles Angels this spring, Ritter now finds a new opportunity in Detroit. For Tigers fans, he represents an intriguing power bat waiting in the wings at Toledo, one who could provide a spark if called upon to fill a need at the big-league level.
