Sheffield United capped off their 2025/26 Championship campaign in style, rallying from a first-half deficit to secure a spirited 2-1 comeback victory over Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams came out firing, knowing a win could keep their play-off hopes alive. Sammie Szmodics pounced on a loose ball after a series of corners, slotting home from close range to give Derby a deserved lead inside the opening 20 minutes. The home side looked sharp and hungry, but the Blades showed their trademark resilience.

United gradually found their footing as the first half wore on. Gustavo Hamer tested Derby goalkeeper Zetterstrom with a dangerous free kick, while the midfield battle grew increasingly physical. Harrison Burrows picked up a yellow card for a late tackle on Ben Brereton Díaz just before the break, a sign that tensions were rising.

The second half started quietly, with both sides feeling each other out. Japhet Tanganga was booked for a foul on Lewis Morris, but the game exploded into life just past the hour mark. A short back pass from Derby's Ward invited pressure, and United pounced with ruthless efficiency. Hamer and Patrick Bamford combined brilliantly, setting up Tom Cannon, who showed incredible composure to slot home from 12 yards despite a sea of Derby defenders attempting blocks.

With the scores level, United made a triple substitution that paid immediate dividends. One of the fresh legs, Tahith Chong, tested Zetterstrom shortly after coming on, keeping the pressure on the home side. The Blades weren't done yet, though. Sydie Peck stepped up and unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box that flew past the helpless keeper, completing the turnaround and securing all three points for the visitors.

The victory was a fitting end to a hard-fought season for Sheffield United, showcasing the grit and determination that has become their hallmark. For Derby, it was a bitter pill to swallow, as their play-off dreams slipped away on the final day.
