Patrick Taylor advanced to the Division II Select semi-final round for the first time in program history.

Patrick Taylor's softball team has turned heartbreak into history this season, and their journey is nothing short of inspiring. After a tough quarterfinal loss to E.D. White last year, the Tigers' eight returning starters came back with a fire that propelled them to a remarkable 29-win season.

"From day one of practice, they all came back better than they were last year. They all worked really, really hard in the offseason," said second-year head coach Lance Reine.

Reine knew his team wasn't mentally ready for that moment last season, but this year, everything changed. In Saturday's quarterfinal showdown against St. Charles Catholic, the Tigers dominated with a 5-0 shutout in LaPlace, punching their ticket to the Division II Select semifinals for the first time in program history.

"It's huge. We're playing against some of the elite teams in the state, and we belong there," Reine said. "That's the biggest message I had to make sure they understood. We belong there, and we're supposed to be there because of the work we put in. They're talented enough to beat anybody."

Leading the charge was the team's lone senior, Ashtyn Rogers, who delivered a masterful performance in the quarterfinals, striking out 15 batters and bringing her season total to an eye-popping 295. "She's nearing 300 strikeouts on the season, nearing 800 for her career," Reine added. "She's been really consistent throughout her high school career, but these last two seasons she's become a more dominant player. That speaks to all her hard work."

That hard work will face its biggest test this weekend in Sulphur, where the Tigers take on top-ranked Vandebilt Catholic. The Terriers are a dynasty in the making, with back-to-back Division II Select state titles and 16 championship wins in program history. But Reine and his team aren't intimidated.

"Vandebilt has the most state championships of any team, the most appearances in the state championship game of any team. And here we are, just the first time through, and little Patrick Taylor," Reine said with a smile. "But we know what we're capable of. We're ready for it. We know we're going to go out there and compete really hard. We're not going there for any other reason but to win it all."

Whether you're gearing up for game day or just love the thrill of the underdog story, Patrick Taylor's run is a reminder that with the right mindset and gear, anything is possible. Stay tuned for the semifinals—this team is just getting started.
