When Colorado coach Deion Sanders recently explained his desire to meet with new Browns coach Todd Monken as a coach and not a father, Deion pointed out that, in 2025, he got no questions from the Browns about coaching Shedeur Sanders.

When Deion Sanders speaks about his former players, the sports world listens. But apparently, the Jacksonville Jaguars haven't been paying attention. The Colorado head coach recently voiced his disappointment that the Jaguars never reached out to him about Travis Hunter, the dynamic two-way star they selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

During a candid appearance on The Barbershop podcast with Garrett Bush, Sanders explained his frustration. "Even a guy like Travis Hunter, being drafted to Jacksonville, and I've had him for the last three years," Sanders said. "Don't you think you would want to talk to me to let me know, to ask me how — what gets him going and what backs him off? You wouldn't want to know that?"

It's a fair question. Sanders spent three seasons coaching Hunter at Colorado, helping transform him into one of the most unique prospects in recent memory — a player capable of excelling on both offense and defense. The Jaguars invested significant draft capital to move up from No. 5 to No. 2 to secure him. Yet, according to Sanders, no one from the organization ever picked up the phone.

This isn't just about pride or protocol. As the Jaguars now work to integrate Hunter into their system — while managing the delicate balance of using him on both sides of the ball without risking injury — any insight from his college coach could prove invaluable. How does he respond to criticism? What motivates him during tough stretches? What's the best way to keep him healthy while maximizing his unique talents?

Sanders knows those answers because he lived them. And while every NFL team has its own way of doing things, sometimes the simplest move is also the smartest: just make the call. For now, that call remains unmade, and Sanders can't help but wonder why.
