Roberto De Zerbi has fired a powerful rallying cry to his Tottenham squad ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Aston Villa, urging his players to "silence the voice inside" as they fight to avoid relegation.

Spurs secured their first win of 2026 last week with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolves, but the mood was tempered by injuries to key players Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons. Despite that much-needed result, Tottenham still sit two points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham, and could be five points from safety by the time they kick off on Sunday if the Hammers beat Brentford.

Standing in their way is a formidable Aston Villa side sitting fourth in the table. Unai Emery's team will be looking to bounce back after back-to-back setbacks—a league defeat to Fulham followed by a Europa League semi-final first-leg loss to Nottingham Forest midweek.

But De Zerbi isn't fazed by the daunting task ahead. Speaking ahead of the trip to Villa Park, the Spurs boss delivered a defiant message to his players and fans alike.

"We have to die on the pitch," De Zerbi declared. "Before losing the game, we have to play and we have to fight. It is not the best moment for us; it is a tough and difficult moment. But the losers cry, the losers think negatively. I don't want people close to me to be crying or think in a different way from me.

"The most important challenge now is to silence the voice inside of us—inside of the players, the staff, the fans. This voice produces negative thoughts. It says we are unlucky, we have too many injuries, we lost Xavi Simons, our medical staff is not good enough, the pitch is not good. It says it is impossible to win two or three games in a row because we haven't won enough in 2026.

"I think these are all negative things and it's rubbish. I want to keep my focus on ourselves and the quality of my players."

With the pressure mounting and survival on the line, De Zerbi is demanding total commitment—and a refusal to let doubt creep in. For Spurs fans, the message is clear: this is no time for negative thinking. It's time to fight.
