De La Salle High School in New Orleans has made a major move to revitalize its football program, hiring veteran Louisiana coach Chad Mahaffey as its new head coach. This appointment signals a clear intent to return the Cavaliers to their winning ways.

Mahaffey brings a championship pedigree to the role, having compiled an impressive 142-59 career record over 17 years coaching in the state. He is best known for his highly successful nine-year tenure at University High (U-High) in Baton Rouge, where his offensive schemes led the team to three state championships.

Most recently, Mahaffey spent seven seasons at Walker High School, culminating in a strong 10-3 campaign in 2023. His proven track record of building successful programs was a key factor in the hire. "He comes with the championship mindset that you only learn when you've been there," said De La Salle athletic director Jason Lachica.

The challenge ahead is significant. The Cavaliers are coming off a 5-7 season and have not posted a winning record since their 10-1 campaign in 2022. Mahaffey's task will be to instill his winning culture and offensive philosophy to climb the ranks in Louisiana's fiercely competitive high school football landscape.
