Beau Greaves made history on Monday by becoming the first woman to win a Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) title, and she did it with a calm confidence that left her opponents in awe.
The 22-year-old from Doncaster defeated Michael Smith 8-7 in a thrilling Players Championship 11 final in Milton Keynes, marking a monumental moment for women in darts. Despite the high stakes, Greaves says she felt "no pressure" competing against men because she was simply playing too well to be nervous.
"It's the best feeling," she said after the match. "I've only had my tour card for a couple of months, and to win so quickly is amazing. I'm really proud of myself."
Greaves described the victory as a "really dramatic moment" and called being the first woman to earn a PDC ranking "brilliant." While she acknowledges that pressure exists at the highest levels of competition, she handles it differently depending on her opponent. "Playing men, I don't feel it that much," she explained. "That day, I didn't feel any pressure at all. It was free flowing, the darts were all going in, and I felt fantastic."
Her journey to the top began at age 11 at the Little Plough pub in Doncaster city centre, where she played under the captaincy of her father, Dave. It all started when her brother told their dad that his sister "was actually really good" at darts. Soon, Greaves was competing alongside her entire family, including her grandfather.
"When I was younger, I wasn't a girly girl—I was a tomboy, and I started playing with my brother," she recalled. "Those are happy memories from when I first started. It's been a real journey."
Her father, Dave, has always believed in his daughter's potential. "She's capable of beating anybody, without a doubt," he said. "Beau's the best lady player there's ever been. They all fear her. They all know how good she is, and they don't want to draw her."
For fans looking to channel that same unstoppable energy, Greaves' story is a reminder that confidence and practice can take you anywhere—even to the top of the darts world.
