CT United FC is proving that they truly are Connecticut's team. After kicking off their inaugural season at UConn's Morrone Stadium, the club is now setting up camp in New Haven for the summer.
This weekend marks a milestone moment: CT United will play their first-ever game in New Haven on Saturday at 6 p.m., facing Toronto FC II, the affiliate of the Major League Soccer club. The match takes place at Yale's historic Reese Stadium, which will serve as the team's home through August.
The club's journey to find a permanent home has been an adventure. Originally hoping to build a new stadium in Bridgeport, those plans stalled when state lawmakers didn't commit to funding. But Connecticut Sports Group, led by managing partner André Swanston, didn't let that slow them down. They pivoted quickly, securing agreements to play across the state this season while they finalize a long-term solution.
That solution is now taking shape. Last month, the club signed a multi-year lease at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, where they'll begin playing next season. As for this year, the location of their final three home games is still to be announced, keeping fans on their toes.
For now, the focus is on this weekend's historic matchup. It's a chance for New Haven soccer fans to see their new local club in action, wearing the colors of a team that's truly representing the entire state.
